BHUTAN—EXPLORING THE LAST HIMALAYAN KINGDOM
A special seminar on Bhutan hosted by The Smithsonian Associates, Washington, D.C.
14 June, 2008 - The Smithsonian Asssociates hosts an all day semniar on Bhutan, Saturday, July 12, featuring guest speakers that include Bhutan's Ambasssador to the U.N. Permanent Mission, the Chief officer of Bhutan's Nature Conservation Division, and Skykingdom's Karma Dorji.
His Excellency Bhutan's Ambassador to the U.N Permanent Mission will speak on the dynamics of a country that has just shifted from an absolute to constitutional monarchy while maintaining traditions.
The Chief of Bhutan's Nature COnservation Division will present a discussion on Bhutan's extraordinary wildlife and biodiversity and the kingdom's unique efforts to preserve their environment and ecology.
Skykingdom's Karma Dorji will take you on an armchair trek across the majestic Bhutan Himalayas and the kingdom's beautiful monasteries towns and villages. He will also present an afternoon session of stories and images that depicting the lives and customs of Bhutanese people, touching on reliigous practices, folklore, food and architecture and other uniquely Bhutanese perspectives.
