Days 1 through 6 : Arrive in Paro, attend the spring Tshechu festival and explore Bhutan's modern capital, Thimphu, and the ancient capital, Punakha . Day 7: Overland journey to central Bhutan . Days 8 to 11: Explore Bumthang Valley and area monasteries and temples and Trongsa Dzong . Day 12: Visit Wangdue Dzong, overlooking two rivers . Days 13 & 14: Walking tour of Thimphu, forest hike north of Thimphu . Day 15: Hike in the mountains south of Thimphu . Day 16: Free day to explore Thimphu's markets and sample local bakeries . Day 17: Transfer to Paro and visit neighboring Haa Valley . Day 18 : Hike to the cliffside Taktshang (Tiger's Nest) Monastery . Day 19: Return flight to Bangkok or another gateway city.
