EN ROUTE IN BANGKOK: Now by special arrangement, you may choose to be picked up and dropped off from the Bangkok Suvarnabhumi International Airport and experience the sedate flow of the city while staying at some of the most venerable addresses along the banks of the Chaophraya River. Days 1 & 2: Arrive in Paro. Hike near Drukgyel Dzong, a monastic fortress built to commemorate a 1644 victory over the Tibetans, OR ascend to the cliffside Taktshang Monastery, 3,000 feet above the valley floor. Days 3 & 4: Transfer to the capital, Thimphu.Visit the national painting school to see examples of the traditional thangka scroll painting style. Shuttle to the village of Dodena and then ascend on foot to Cheri Goemba Monastery or the Tango Buddhist College. Days 5 to 7: Transfer to Punakha. with views of snowcapped Himalayan peaks from Dochula pass. Enjoy a relaxed tour of valley monuments, including the Hall of 100 Pillars and the Zangthopelri pagoda. Take a relaxed stroll through the picturesque ricefields of Metsina to the temple dedicated to the "divine madman" and hike to Chorten Nebu, a 14th-century temple accessible only by foot. Days 8 & 9 Return transfer to Paro Valley. Return flight to Bangkok or another gateway city.
