ITINERARY IN BRIEF |

Day 1: Arrive in Paro Valley. Visit the national museum and the Paro Dzong or fortress. Day 2: Walking tour of the capital, with a stop at a traditional papermaking workshop. Day 3: Transfer to Wangduephodrang and Punakha Valleys, with a stop to view the greater himalayas at Dochula pass. Day 4: Explore the Punakha valley, including the Hall of 100 Pillars and a hike to the Zangthopelri pagoda. Days 5 & 6: Visit the Wangduephodrang ridgetop fortress with a relaxed afternoon stroll through the picturesque ricefields of Metsina to the temple dedicated to the "divine madman". Transfer to the Phobjikha Valley and Gangtey Monastery. Day 7: Walking exploration of the Phobjikha Valley floor and a visit with monks at the monastery. Day 8: Transfer to Bumthang Valley. Day 9: Explore Jakar valley with stops at the Kurje and Jambay Lhakhang temples, among the earliest in the kingdom. Day 9: Hike to the Ugyencholing Palace, legacy of the Deb Raja Tshokey Dorji, today preserved as a museum and an upscale lodge. Day 10: Excursion to Ura or Shingkhar Valley, gateway to east Bhutan. Day 11: Return transfer to Wangduephodrang. Day 12: Excursion to Talo Monastery, spiritual home of their Majesties, the queens of Bhutan. Day 13: Return transfer to the capital. Day 14: Day hike to Tango Buddhist College. Day 15: Explore the capital's markets, the textile museum, folk heritage museum. Day 16: Transfer to Paro Valley, visit a local farm with traditional tea service and meal. Day 17: Excursion to the recently opened Haa Valley. Day 18: Hike to Tiger's Nest Monastery. Day 19: Return flight to Bangkok or another gateway city. |
